Prof. Dionysis D Bochtis (M) is the Director of CERTH/iBO. Previous positions include: Chair Professor (Agri-Robotics) at the Dept. of Computer Science, University of Lincoln, UK, and Senior Scientist (Operations Management) at the Dept. of Engineering at Aarhus University, Denmark. He holds a PhD in Fleet management in bio-production systems, a MSc in Automation Control, and a B.Sc. in Exact Sciences (Physics). His primary research is Systems Engineering focused on bio-production and related provision systems including conventional systems with enhanced ICT and automation technologies and fully robotized systems. He has participated (as researcher, WP leader, partner, and coordinator) in 29 (22 EU) funded research projects. He has given 17 key-note speeches around on Systems Engineering topics. He is vice-chairman of CIGR (International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers) Section V (Systems management) and he was the president of CIOSTA, 2011-2013 (Commission Internationale de l'Organisation Scientifique du Travail en Agriculture, founded in Paris, 1950).

Aristotelis Tagarakis is Assistant Researcher (Grade C) at the Institute for Bio-economy and Agri- technology (iBO/CERTH) with expertise in precision agriculture. Dr Tagarakis received MSc degree in “Automation in Irrigation, Farm Structures and Farm Mechanization” and PhD degree in “precision agriculture” form the University of Thessaly, Greece. In the framework of his PhD he worked as research scholar at Auburn University, Biosystems Engineering department AL, U.S.A., in the area of Precision Agriculture, variable rate fertilization and automated irrigation in maize. Also, he has been Postdoctoral Associate at Cornell University, N.Y., U.S.A., leading the precision agriculture program. Before joining the iBO he was senior researcher at the BioSense Institute in Serbia. He has significant research experience working at various national, European, and other international projects. His main research interests include precision agriculture, remote sensing and sensor networks in agriculture.

Dr. Dimitrios Kateris is an Assistant Researcher (Grade C) at the Institute for Bio-economy and Agri- technology (iBO) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). In 2015 he received his PhD in Agricultural Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for his dissertation on "Intelligent system for fault diagnosis in agricultural tractor mechanical subsystems". Also, he holds a MSc in Agricultural Engineering and Water Resources from the same Institute (2009) and two BSc in Hydraulics, Soil Science and Agricultural Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2006) and from Technological Educational Institute of Thessaly (1999) respectively. His research interests lie mainly in the areas of Agricultural Robotics, Digital Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Decision Support Systems (DSS), Operations Management, Information Systems, Automation Systems in Agriculture, Machine Learning. His involvement with the above research areas has led to the co-authoring of over 33 papers in refereed journals, 2 books, 6 book chapters, 1 patent and more than 100 papers in international and national conferences. He has served as a regular reviewer for a number of international journals and conferences. Also, he has participated in more than 14 European and National Projects.

Leonidas Spyrou is a Researcher C on the field of Biomechanics at CERTH/IBO. He studied at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of University of Thessaly, Greece, where he obtained his Diploma, his M.Sc. with specialization in Mechanics, Materials, and Manufacturing processes, and his Ph.D. in the area of Computational Biomechanics. His main research interests are in the field of computational and applied mechanics with an emphasis on the biomechanics of biological tissues and the investigation of the mechanical characteristics of medical devices. Also, he has over 15 years of experience in advanced computational analysis of structures and simulation of manufacturing processes. He is the author of more than 25 scientific publications in refereed international journals and conferences and holder of an international design patent. He has been involved in more than 10 EU, National and industrial funded research projects. He serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals. He is the Vice-President of the Hellenic Society of Biomechanics (2019-2020).

Dr. Georgios Banias is Assistant Researcher (Researcher C) in iBO/CERTH. He is Visitin g Lecturer at School of Economics and Business Administration and Legal Studies, Internat ional Hellenic University (Courses: Environmental Impact Assessment, Industrial Ecology and Life Cycle An alysis). He graduated in 2005 from Aristotle University's Mechanical Engineering Department. In 2 009, he was granted with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Aristotle University Thessaloniki in th e field of the optimal Construction and Demolition Waste Management. Since 2005, he has been involved in National and European Research Projects and in educational activities of the Aristotle University 's Mechanical Engineering Department. He is the author of more than 60 scientific publications. H is research interests focus on the area of Sustainable Development, Environmental Assessment, Life Cycle Analysis, Environmental Informatics, Environmental Management Systems, Strategic Planning and Envi ronmental Legislation, Information Systems. Thanos Balafoutis is a Researcher (Grade C) and his research interests focus on the following: (a) Precision Agriculture with emphasis on the application of variable rate input techniques to high value crops for the purpose of qualitative and quantitative improvement of production; (b) production and use of biomass for energy production to meet energy needs at farm or remote settlement level. He works at the Institute as a Researcher since September 2017 and the last 14 years he has participated in over 30 research projects as principal researcher in Universities and Research Centers. He has published 20 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters and more than 40 articles in international and national conferences. He is a member of the European Society of Agricultural Engineers (EurAgEng), the International Society of Precision Agriculture (ISPA), the Institute of Agricultural Engineers (IagrE), the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE), the Society of Agricultural Engineers of Greece (HelAgEng) and the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece (GEOTEE).

Mrs. Georgia Pahlitzanakis is the Head of Administration of the Institute for Bio-Economy and Agro-Technology (iBO) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). She has been working at the Institute since September 2006 and is involved in the management and coordination of all the administrative activities of the Institute and the financial monitoring of European Research Programs. She has worked at "DIMITRA" Educational Organization S.A. as a Business Consultant (2004-2006) and at Johnson & Johnson Hellas as Assistant Brand Manager Neutrogena, Band-Aid and J&J Nursing Pads (2001-2002). She is the author of three educational training manuals on business management, organization and planning.

George Vlontzos is an Associate Professor, Director of the Laboratory of Agricultural Economics and Consumer Behavior. His research interests focus on, among others, economic and environmental efficiency assessment, and on consumer behavior characteristics for agricultural inputs and foodstuff. For this various models are being implemented like Data Envelopment Analysis, Stochastic Frontier, Artificial Neural Networks, the Theory of Planned Behaviour, the Health Belief Model, etc. He has published several papers in journals under double blind peer review evaluation and participated in international congresses and seminars. Finally, he has participated, in competitive projects co-financed by the EU, national funding as well as private funding projects.

Thomas Kotsopoulos (TK) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Agriculture of AUTh. TK holds a degree in Agriculture and a degree in Civil Engineering. He received his master's and doctoral degree in agricultural engineering with an emphasis on the utilization of agricultural waste from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in 2001 and 2005, respectively. Today he is the Director of the Agricultural Structures & Equipment Laboratory. His current research interests include: the application of innovative solutions in livestock units and greenhouses to optimize the control and regulation of the microenvironment, the design and operation of anaerobic bioreactors for the production of hydrogen and methane, the optimization of the anaerobic process, and livestock waste management. He has about 68 scientific publications (h-index 14), and he participates / has participated both as a scientific responsible (5: 3 HORIZON2020, 2 national funding RESEARCH-CREATE-INNOVATE) and as a member of a research team in 12 national and European programs. He has evaluated national and European programs. The research team of TK consists of 5 PhDs (TK is the supervising Professor) and 1 postgraduate student.

Ioannis Sarris holds a diploma and doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Patras (1995) and University of Thessaly (2001), Greece, respectively. He is now an Associate Professor in Fluid Mechanics and Magnetohydrodynamics in the Mechanical Engineering Dept of University of West Attica, Greece. He has been involved in various research projects and his research interests include fluid mechanics and heat transfer, transport phenomena, magnetohydrodynamics of liquid metals and plasmas, fuel cells, natural convection, turbulent flow simulation using DNS and LES techniques. Sotiris Tasoulis received his diploma in Mathematics in 2006 and his MSc in Mathematics of Computers and Decision Making in 2009 from University of Patras in Greece. In 2013 he received his PhD from the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics of the University of Thessaly in Greece. In the same year he joined Helsinki Institute for Information Technology (HIIT) and Department of Computer Science of the University of Helsinki in Finland as a post doctoral researcher in Knowledge Discovery in Big Data. Next in September 2015 Sotiris was assigned as Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the Department of Applied Mathematics of Liverpool John Moores University in UK. In 2017 he joined the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics of the University of Thessaly as a Senior Post Doctoral Researcher while in June 2019 was assigned Assistant Professor in the same Department. His research focuses on the development of Statistical approaches able to cope with the central challenges associated with Data Analysis, and in particular Big Data, while his teaching concern courses on Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence. He has organized several workshops regarding advances in Big Data and have received several funding and scholarship awards on the subject. Finally, in many occasions Sotiris has collaborated with the industry as a consultant in Machine Learning applications.

John B. Theocharis (M’90) received the degree in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1980 and 1985, respectively. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His research activities include fuzzy systems, neural networks, evolutionary algorithms, pattern recognition and image analysis. He has published numerous papers in several application areas such as neuro-fuzzy modeling, power demand and wind speed prediction, land cover classification and segmentation from remotely sensed images. Recently his research is focused on addressing challenges in soil-spectroscopy and medical imaging using machine learning and deep learning techniques.

Prof. Magdalini Krokida is Professor at the School of Chemical Engineering of NTUA and she is working in the area of Food Engineering with more than 20 years of experience. Her field of expertise covers evaluation of the economic and environmental impact of several products and processes, design and optimization of physical processes, including drying, encapsulation and extraction processes, design and development of new products, determination of thermophysical properties of materials. Prof. Krokida has a considerable publishing activity, including 4 Greek books, 3 international books, 15 chapters in international publications and more than 120 articles in international “peer-reviewed” journals, with more than 3160 citations. She has many publications related to LCA and she has also participated in numerous research projects.

Dr. Spyros FOUNTAS (M), Associate Professor in Precision Agriculture. He is Editor-in-Chief in the ELSEVIER journal “Computers and Electronics in Agriculture” (IF: 2.2) and he is in the Editorial Board at the Precision Agriculture journal, since 2011. He holds an MSc from Cranfield University UK in Information Technology, and PhD from Copenhagen University, Denmark in Systems Analysis on Precision Agriculture. He was also Visiting Scholar at Purdue University, USA. He is Executive Board Member of the ICT-Agri ERA-NET Program (2014-2017) and expert on the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) by the DG-Agri on the Focus Group on Precision Agriculture (2014-2015). He has been Keynote speakers in the 17th European Weed Research Society (EWRS) about “Big data analytics for crop protection”; in European Conference on Precision Agriculture about “Application of Precision Agriculture technology in high value crops”; in the UK National conference on Precision Agriculture about “Farm Management Information Systems” and Invited speaker on the Global Forum for Innovations in Agriculture in Abu Dhabi. He was co-organizer of the short course on “Use of Sensors for Precision Agriculture” in the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute in Zaragoza, Spain. Dr. Thomas Alexandridis is an agronomist with a specialization in remote sensing and geoinformatics. His research interests include environmental, agricultural and water resources monitoring and modelling using Earth observation, and spatial analysis of geographic data in GIS. He has extensive experience in mapping vegetation and water parameters at wide scales (national and regional) using low resolution satellite images in several European countries, Brazil, Pakistan and Mozambique, as well as local scales with very high resolution satellite images, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and in-situ measurements. He has authored and co-authored more than 80 journal and conference papers, and has participated in more than 25 research projects funded by the EU, European Space Agency, and various national sources, in several of them as Principal Investigator.

Theodore Matikas is a leading expert in smart sensing systems, nondestructive evaluation and structural health monitoring. He pioneered the development of advanced characterization methods, quantification of damage and life prediction of engineering materials and structures in aerospace, energy and civil infrastructure applications. His research interests include, environmental attack of ageing structures, fatigue and fracture of materials, advanced techniques for the characterization of damage in metallic alloys, coatings, composites, ceramics, nano-structured materials, functional and smart materials, and concrete structures. He is currently Professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, University of Ioannina, Greece (since 2008), and Director of the Mechanics, NDE and Smart Sensors (MSS-NDE) Laboratory.

Dr. Elpiniki I. Papageorgiou is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Engineering at University of Applied Sciences (TEI) of Sterea Ellada, Lamia, Hellas. She holds a PhD in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras (Sept. 2004). She specializes in developing and applying soft computing methods and algorithms to decision support problems for prediction, strategic decisions, scenario analysis and data mining, solving important existing and/or emerging problems, arising in engineering, business, medicine, agriculture and environment. Her main research specialization is the development of novel algorithms and methods for Fuzzy Cognitive Maps. She has been working for over 16 years as senior researcher in several research projects related with the development of novel computational intelligence methodologies for decision support systems, intelligent algorithms and fuzzy cognitive tools for prediction and decision making, data mining, big data analysis. Also, her strong relationship with external funding bodies and especially EU and national funding environments, gave her an experience in managing research teams in different application domain projects. She has more than 182 publications in journals, conference papers and book chapters (71 of them are in journals with high Impact Factors) and has 1937 citations from independent researchers (h-index=27 in scopus). Dr. Elpiniki Papageorgiou is the Editor of the Springer book “Fuzzy Cognitive Maps for Applied Sciences and Engineering - from fundamentals to extensions and learning algorithms”, Intelligent Systems Reference Library 54, Springer 2014. Her research interests include intelligent systems, fuzzy cognitive maps, soft computing methods, decision support systems, cognitive systems, data mining and machine learning.

Dr. Dimitrios Tzetzis is an Asst. Professor and Director of the MSc in Strategic Product Design, School of Science and Technology, International Hellenic University, Greece. He graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kingston University, UK and he continued his studies in the same university receiving an MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Systems. He also received a PhD from Queen Mary, University of London, School of Engineering and Materials Science. He worked as a member of the Centre for Materials Research where he focused his research in the design, analysis and manufacture of materials and structures. Dr. Christos Athanassiou is currently a Professor of Entomology at the Department of Agriculture, Crop Production and Rural Environment at the University of Thessaly, Greece. He has participated as a coordinator, PI or key researcher in >80 national and international research programs (funded by different organizations, such as EU, International Atomic Energy Agency, FAO, European Crop Protection Association, United States Agency for International Development, USDA-APHIS, OECD etc.). He has published more than 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and currently serves as an Editor in Chief of Journal of Stored Products Research (Elsevier), and Editor of Journal of Pest Science (Springer) and Journal of Insect Science (Oxford). Prof. Athanassiou has received scholarships, fellowships and awards, from different national and international organizations such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) (2007), the Hellenic Scholarship Foundation (2000-2001), the USDA Forest Service International Programs (2010, 2012, 2013, 2018), the Fulbright Foundation (2015) and the US Institute of International Education (IIE) (2015).

Prof. D. Karalekas received his B.Sc. degree in 1985 from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois in Mechanical Engineering. His M.Sc. (1987), and Ph.D. (1990) degrees from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois in Theoretical & Applied Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering, respectively. During the period 1992-93 he was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Laboratory of Experimental Mechanics and Advanced Materials of the Center for Quality Engineering and Failure Prevention at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, USA. Mr Kalpaktsoglou is a Doctor of Engineering at the University of Newcastle in the United Kingdom. He has a master’s degree in Power Electronics from the University of Newcastle, as well as in Business Administration (MBA) and in the Design, Development and Optimization of Renewable Energy Development Systems from the TEI of Central Macedonia. His research project focuses on renewable energy sources and in particular on optimizing the power factor of energy conversions. He has taught for several years, at the level of a bachelor’s Degree in the Department of Engineering of the TEI of Central Macedonia, as well as in the Postgraduate Program at the same Foundation. Finally, he is a lecturer in Polytechnic Sciences at the Metropolitan College of Thessaloniki, teaching Digital Electronics and Circuit Theory in the undergraduate program of Electrical-Electronic Engineering. Finally, since 2019 he works as a mechanical engineer at DEYA in Serres.

Dr. Konstantinos Kontogiannopoulos is a chemical engineering holding a PhD in Chemistry and Technology of Natural products and Pharmaceutical Technology with emphasis on the utilization of bioactive natural products through innovative drug delivery systems. He has long experience in the pharmaceutical industry and public research sector. His research interests focus on innovative drug delivery systems (Liposomes, hyperbranched Polymers and Chimeric Advanced DDS, Cyclodextrines, biodegradable polymeric patches) for bioactive compounds derived from natural products. Furthermore, his research expands on the utilization of natural products, as well as in advanced methods of management-processing and reuse of industrial water and wastewater streams as well as the utilization/valorization of by- and co-products from agri-food industries. He has published 13 research articles in international peer-reviewed journals (214 citations, h-index: 7). In addition, he has worked on 9 relevant research projects co-funded by the EU and Greece.

Dr Nickolas D. Polychronopoulos holds a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science (University Patras) and a Master’s and PhD in Mechanical Engineering (University of Thessaly). His field of expertise lies in modeling in materials processing. He has more than 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, multiauthor book chapters and one book. These are in calendering, pultrusion, resin infiltration in porous media, viscoelastic effects in film casting, natural fiber composites, rheology and technology of polymer extrusion, particle sintering for Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) and nanofluids. He has been an Adjunct Lecturer in University of Thessaly. He has been working for 12 years for Polydynamics Inc (Ontario, Canada) first as Process Simulation Specialist and recently as R&D Engineer. He has also worked for one year for Rontis Hellas (Larissa, Greece) as R&D/Production Engineer on endovascular balloon catheters.

Dr. Apostolos Gkountas is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Bioengineering at iBo/CERTH. He holds a Dipl.-Ing. in Mechanical Engineering (2012) and a MSc in Energy Systems (2014) from University of Thessaly (Volos). He continued his doctorate studies (was supported by Greek State Scholarships Foundation - IKY) in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and presented his PhD thesis at University of Thessaly in May 2019. In 2018, he participated as a researcher in S-CO2 Project at Cranfield University in UK. Since March 2020, he is Research Fellow and Adjunct Lecturer at University of West Attica. Dr Efstratios Nikolaivits holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He finished his PhD (2019) in Chemical Engineering in the field of Industrial Biotechnology at NTUA. More specifically his thesis was about Environmental Biotechnology and Biocatalysis. His research interests include the utilization of microorganisms for the bioremediation of chlorinated aromatic pollutants and plastic waste, followed by the discovery of novel enzymes for industrial applications. Furthermore, he has worked with protein engineering techniques for the enhancement/alteration of enzymatic properties. He has participated in research projects funded by the European Commission and national funds. By the end of 2019 he had published 12 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and presented his work in 18 international and national conferences. Currently he serves are a reviewer in six international peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Eirini Aivazidou is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Digital Agriculture at iBO/CERTH and in Circular Economy at the School of Mechanical Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece. She was previously a Research Fellow in System Dynamics at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Bologna (UNIBO), Italy. She received a PhD in Supply Chain Water Footprint Management (funded by the Onassis Foundation) in 2017, an MSc in Transport Engineering in 2015, and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 2013, all with Distinction from AUTh. She has published her research work in acknowledged peer-reviewed journals (e.g. Journal of Cleaner Production, Sustainability, Water) and as chapters in scientific books. She has participated in European research projects, such as the FP7 “GREEN-AgriChains” (at AUTh) and the Horizon 2020 “PERCEIVE” (at UNIBO). Her scientific interests cover indicatively the fields of water resources management, sustainable supply chains, agrifood systems, and operations research.

Georgios Karagkounis is a graduate of the Department of Production and Management Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace. The title of his dissertation is ‘Comparative study of different methods and technologies for electricity generation’. The title of his master thesis is ‘Traceability of tomato cultivation using deep learning neural networks’. He has more than 10 years of experience in the field of control and automation engineering, electrical and mechanical systems, and industrial applications, including modeling and simulating of dynamic multiphysical systems, along with analog and digital signal processing. His thesis focused on Renewable Energy system design combined with the perspective of parallel agricultural use. As a member of Aristotle Racing Team (ART) he contributed to the improvement of motor performance through data observation. Nikolaos Tsakiridis received the Diploma of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2014 from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and since 2015 is pursuing his PhD in the same department and in the Laboratory of Automation and Robotics. His PhD concerns the development of novel machine learning techniques for the estimation of soil physicochemical properties from hyperspectral signatures, and is particularly focused in the development of explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) techniques. His research interests involve machine learning, remote sensing, big data analysis, and evolutionary fuzzy systems. He is also collaborating with the laboratory of Remote Sensing, Spectroscopy, and Geographical Information Systems of the Farm School of the same university, as well as with the inter-Balkan Environment Center. Currently she is a Phd student at University of Thessaly, in the Laboratory of Entomology and Agricultural Zoology under supervision of Professor Christos Athanassiou. She has received scholarships from State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) and Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.). Her research interest focus on insect behavior, chemical and non-chemical control of stored product insects.

Moisiadis Vasileios is a M.Sc. student at School of Informatics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and he works as a software developer at the CERTH/iBO. His M.Sc. is specialized on Machine Learning and Big Data Analysis. Vasileios' research interests focus on robotics technologies and Unmanned Guided Vehicles (UGVs). His programming skills involve C++, Python, Scala and Linux Shell scripting.

Theodora Angelopoulou is a PhD candidate at the Department of Agriculture of AUTH. She is an agriculturist with an MSc in Soil Science and Soil Management specializing in Soil Reflectance Spectroscopy. Her research interests focus on precision agriculture, using remote and proximal sensing, while applying practices of sustainable management in agro-ecosystems. She has participated in three research projects as a scientific associate.

Maria Lampridi is a graduate of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds a Master's degree in Sustainable Development (Environmental Management and Sustainability) from the International Hellenic University. She is a PhD Candidate of the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and National Environment of the AUTH. Her research interests focus on Environmental Assessment, Environmental Impact Assessment, Life Cycle Assessment, as well as on Sustainability Assessment.
